Are you considering building a wind power generator or having one built for you? If you are then you should know that you are taking a step towards improvement by not having to pay a utility company for power that you can get for free. There are a few factors that need to be taken into consideration before doing anything; the first is to consider how much energy you actually need. If you need a small amount of energy then there are portable generators that can be taken with you on a camping trip, etc. For much larger energy needs, such as powering your home, you will need a wind turbine to create enough energy.

So if you want to power your house and are thinking of building a wind turbine, the next thing you will need to take into consideration is the location of the turbine as location is critical. If there is not enough wind blowing to keep the wind turbine functional, then what good is the wind turbine? So, you must make sure that your location can sustain a wind turbine or else you would just be wasting your money. Once that has been established then you will need to check local laws and regulations regarding wind turbines. Most wind turbines are built in a very visible location, many housing developments may not allow for it because it would create an eyesore. You will also need to make sure that the utility companies will allow you to use along with theirs for extra energy. This is important because the wind cannot be controlled, if there is no wind one day then you will have to use the utility company’s electricity, so it is important to make sure that it is alright with them.

The average home will consume around 10,000 KWh of electricity each year, so if you are trying to power your entire house, then you need to take into consideration how much electricity your home will need. Once you have figured that out then you can build a wind turbine big enough to meet those needs, or you can have one built. Smaller wind turbines are also available which come in handy if you are trying to power a cabin, a camp site, a vacation home, or anything that does not need as much electricity because it is not in use constantly. You may end up building a wind turbine that generates an excessive amount of electricity, way more than you needed. This is not a problem; in fact it could earn you some extra money from the utility companies because you could sell them the excess electricity that you do not use.

The best part of having a wind turbine is that it is free; the only cost is the initial cost to build the structure which will pay for itself in no time. Not only is it free, but it is environmentally friendly because there are no harmful pollutants or by-products that are created from the machine’s operation that can harm animals or any other living thing. You may even receive a tax break on the wind turbine, so you are going to be saving quite a bit of money in the long run. The only thing that you will need to watch out for is the placement of your wind turbine so that is minimizes the damage done to animals. Birds and bats fly are often killed when they fly into the path of a windmill, not to mention that people can sustain headaches or other problems because of the low-frequency noise created by the wind turbine along

In today’s world, the green movement is taking over, bringing a lot of people with it who want to join in. In the recent years, the governments, organizations and individuals have shown us the damage we are doing to the environment with our lifestyles, they also told us how we can help. Driving more fuel efficient cars, recycle everything that can be recycled, disposing of waste properly, and using products that will not have an adverse affect ton the environment. There are also ways to make your home a very eco-friendly home by powering off of something other than the big power companies. This is where the wind energy movement would come into play.

Wind energy is energy that is harnessed simply by the wind blowing. If it is harnessed correctly, the wind can be converted into a type of mechanical force or into electricity to power things in your home. The best part about using wind energy to create electricity for you is that you do not have to pay for the wind to blow; you do however have to pay for electricity from a local power company. So if you decide that you want to try your luck at harnessing wind energy, the question will come to mind, “How do I generate wind energy?”

The answer to that question is simple, you do not generate wind energy, the sun does. The sun will sometimes heat the earth at different rates. This creates a reduction in the atmospheric pressure, when there is a reduced atmospheric pressure, the hot air will rise and cooler air will become its substitute which creates wind. So now that the question at hand has been answered, the new question is, “How can I harness the wind and convert it into energy?”

That answer is also a rather simple one. Traditionally, there were machines known all around as windmills that were used to do something mechanical such as mill wheat into grain. The wind spun the windmill and that spun gears which performed a certain job. The same concept applies to converting wind energy except that the windmill took on a slightly more modern name; the wind turbine. Modern wind turbines have two main styles, one is the horizontal axis wind turbine, and the other is a vertical axis wind turbine. A horizontal axis wind turbine takes on a more traditional look by using a propeller while the vertical axis wind turbine is shaped similar to an egg beater. The horizontal axis turbine is the most popular type of turbine.

When the wind blows, it spins the blades on the wind turbine which in turn creates energy which will then be converted into electricity. Most wind turbines include a rotor, and enclosure that houses the drive train, gearbox and generator, a tower big enough to support the rotor blades and enclosure, and various types of electronic equipment that is vital in converting the energy. The blades are usually made of polyester that is reinforced with fiberglass.

The amount of energy that is produced from your wind turbine is based on two factors; the first factor is how big your wind turbine is, the second factor is how often the wind blows, because you obviously need wind to power the wind turbine. Around 10,000 KWh of electricity is used by the average household each year, so you would probably want to at least get a wind turbine that is big enough to create 10,000 KWh. If you build a wind turbine that is larger and ends up creating entirely more electricity than what is needed, then you can feed the excess electricity back into the utility system and they will pay you for your contributions

Wind turbines are large machines that are used for generating electricity from the wind. The amount of electricity generated from wind turbines has rapidly grown in recent years. In 2008, The United States has generated about 52 kilowatt-hours, which is only a fraction of the nation’s total electricity production but it was well over enough to serve 4.6 million households. To install a wind turbine, it is very important to choose a location in which the turbine can function properly. It cannot be located in any windy terrain. One important consideration is wind speed; it must be calculated before planting the wind turbines. Wind speed increases with altitude which implies that hills and open plains are the best locations for wind turbines.

Wind turbines are classified based on the direction of the rotating shaft axis; horizontal axis wind machines and vertical axis wind machines. Wind turbines are manufactured in different shapes to suit any needs. Small turbines are used for generating electricity for a house or for business purposes, and usually have a capacity of less than 100 kilowatts. Large turbines may have a capacity of five million watts or five megawatts. Large turbines are grouped together in a farm to power an electrical grid.

Most of the wind turbines that have been used in recent times are the horizontal axis turbines. They have blades like an airplane propeller. A horizontal wind turbine can be the same height as a 20 story building. It has three blades of about 200 feet. The blades of the largest wind turbine are longer than a football field. Vertical axis wind turbines are designed like an egg beater. It has blades that run from top to bottom. The most common type of wind turbine is the Darrieus wind turbine, which looks like a big two-bladed egg beater. The vertical axis wind turbines are about 100 feet tall and 50 feet wide.

Wind turbines do not pollute the environment in any way because they do not use fuel to produce the electricity. One of the drawbacks of a turbine is that it has a negative effect on the bird population and for some people, the glistening blades of the turbines is an eyesore.

The motion of gases on a large scale is called wind. Wind plays a very important role in the earth’s atmosphere. Wind is formed due to the uneven heating of earth’s surface. The surface of the earth consists of different types of land so heat absorption varies from one place to the other. General classification of wind is done based on its speed, spatial scale, cause for the force types, regions of occurrence and their effects. The meteorological department classifies wind according to their strength and direction. For example, Gusts are high speed winds that occur for a short period of time, strong winds with medium duration are called squalls. Long duration winds are called breeze, gale, storm, typhoons and hurricanes.
Strong winds can blow off trees houses and can even take away a person’s life. Landforms are formed due to strong wind through the Aeolian process. Winds also disperse seeds from one plant to the other which helps in survival of the plant species. Wind formation in the rough terrains is associated with regional names due to their substantial effects on the region. Wildfires that occur in mountains are spread to a large area because of the winds. Wind power is mainly used for generating electricity. It is a renewable energy because the wind will blow as long as the sun shines.
Windmills are used for generating electricity from the wind. Wind energy is used as a power resource in most countries. Wind is also said to be a clean fuel as it does not produce any water or air pollution. In the old days, people built wind mills to grind grains, pump water and for cutting wood. The early wind mills resembled large paddle wheels. In recent times, wind turbines are being used for generating electricity. Wind turbines have three large blades which collect the kinetic energy from the wind, which is then converted into electrical energy with the use of an electric generator.
The working of a wind turbine is very simple. The wind flows over the blades causing them to move in a particular direction. The blades are connected to a drive shaft that comes in contact with the electric generator to produce electricity. One disadvantage of wind turbines is that they have a negative effect on bird population.
